Oral Mucosal Disorders
The consultation and treatment of oral mucosal disorders
Mr Afshin Yousefpour will examine the mouth and discuss your symptoms before offering treatment options.
A sore or dry mouth may be linked to another condition and will resolve with treatment of the underlying condition.
Recurrent ulcers are most common and are usually small and heal without treatment. Deeper ulcers that can take many weeks to heal and scar may need further investigation to determine if they are a sign of cancer. Treatment of recurrent ulcers includes steroids and antibiotic mouthwashes.

White and red patches can be a sign of oral thrush which can be treated with anti-fungal therapy or laser surgery. They can also be a side effect of certain medications. Lichen planus is a condition that affects the mucous membranes and can be treated with steroids.
These patches can be cancerous or pre-cancerous and Mr Yousefpour will determine if that is the case. They can then be removed surgically or with a laser.
