Cysts

Cysts are sac of fluid that can form in the tissues of the face and mouth, including in the jawbone and around the teeth. Cysts are usually slow growing and can often resolve themselves or can become infected and need treatment.

The consultation and treatment for cysts

Dental cysts can form in the roots of dead teeth or can form if teeth are impacted in the gum. Usually, they are isolated, but it is possible to develop more than one cyst if they are the result of an underlying medical condition.

As most cysts occur when a tooth has died, good dental hygiene and regular dental check-ups can prevent these problems occurring. If the nerves in a tooth have died, root canal treatment can be a preventative measure.

You may need them removed if they become infected causing pain and swelling. They can also damage the surrounding teeth and the supporting jaw. They also can prevent the normal function of the mouth tissues.

Mr Afshin Yousefpour will thoroughly examine the mouth but may also perform dental x-rays to assess the extent of the problem.
