Neck Lift
Am I a good candidate for a neck lift?
A neck lift is ideal for men and women that have excess skin and fatty tissue on the jawline and neck that need tightening up. This can be the result of the ageing process, but if you’ve lost a lot of weight this can be a difficult area to improve and tone up. Another ageing concern of the neck is that the platysma bands become more marked. These are the muscles in the neck and over time horizontal lines start to appear.

The neck lift consultation
During your neck lift consultation, Mr Afshin Yousefpour will discuss what you’re hoping to achieve from cosmetic surgery. He will also examine the neck area and assess whether the problem is excess skin, fatty tissue, weakened muscles or a combination of all three.
Neck lift surgery is often combined with liposuction to remove any fatty deposits that are marring the jawline and neck and it may be that liposuction alone will achieve the results you’re hoping for. Ageing changes to the neck rarely happen in isolation, so many patients will benefit from a neck lift combined with facial rejuvenation surgery.
Mr Yousefpour will explain all your options, including benefits, possible complications and the results you can expect. From this, you will be able to make an informed decision about whether to proceed with surgery.
Are there any risks or complications?
Any surgical procedure performed under a general anaesthetic and involving incisions and manipulation of tissues, comes with a number of potential complications. This includes infections, excess bleeding or build up of fluid. Some patients suffer temporary numbness in the skin on the neck and around the ears, as a result of nerve damage, but for most patients sensation will return as normal.
Scarring on the neck generally heals very well and Mr Yousefpour will disguise the scars as much as possible in the folds and natural contours. Smoking can prolong the healing process so it is advisable to cease smoking for a period both before and after your procedure.
What does a neck lift procedure involve?
Surgery usually takes two to three hours; Mr Yousefpour will make small incisions in the hairline and behind the ears and then stretch the skin along the jawline and neck, removing any excess.
Immediately after your neck lift surgery, expect some bruising and swelling, although that should resolve over the next couple of weeks. There may also be a feeling of tightness and pulling initially, but a neck lift is not usually considered a very painful procedure and any discomfort can be easily controlled by over-the-counter painkillers.
Most patients are able to return to work and normal activities within one to two weeks, but more vigorous activities and exercise should be avoided for a month. Mr Yousefpour will give you comprehensive aftercare instructions on how to manage your recovery process.
