Pre-Prosthetic Surgery
This may involve removing teeth, particularly if impacted, to accommodate the prosthesis, but usually requires some preparation of the bone that supports the teeth. This can involve smoothing, reshaping, removal of excess bone or reducing a bone ridge. It can also involve reshaping or removal of excess gum tissue.
The pre-prosthetic surgery consultation
Pre-prosthetic surgery will be one part of your planned dental treatment programme so all benefits and potential risks will have been discussed in full at your initial consultation.

What does pre-prosthetic surgery involve?
Mr Yousefpour will make incisions in the gums to access the bone ridge that supports the teeth. After the procedure, the gums are closed with sutures that will either be dis solvable or need to be removed approximately a week later. The procedures is usually performed under a local anaesthetic combined with sedation.
Are there any risks and complications?
The mouth will be sore and there may be some swelling and bruising. You may require an antibiotic. Mr Yousefpour will give you comprehensive instructions on what you can and can’t do after pre-prosthetic surgery. There are risks associated with any surgical procedure and Mr Yousefpour will explain them carefully during your consultation.
What results can I expect from pre-prosthetic surgery?
After the tissues have healed, which will take approximately four weeks, your dentist will then be able to take impression for the dentures or fixed bridge.
